PINCH HITTER TRAINING PACKAGE
This course is designed primarily for those who have had minimal exposure to cockpit operations but want to learn more. At course completion, students will be able to assist a pilot in basic navigation and flight duties and can get an airplane safely on the ground in the event of an emergency.
This is one-on-one training with a flight instructor although customization for groups or special requests can be accommodated. It can be completed in one day or separated into multiple sessions.
Topics:
- Gain basic understanding of how to control an airplane
- Understand engine operation
- Learn the major flight instruments and cockpit layout
- Use and tuning of radios for emergency frequency assistance
- Basics of descent and landing
- Elementary aerodynamics and stall
Course Timeline:
Session 1: 2 hours
- 30 minutes ground instruction on cockpit layout and controls
- 30 minutes simulator time on straight and level flight and instrument interpretation
- 30 minutes ground instruction on aircraft control and basic aerodynamics
- 30 minutes simulator time on turns, climbs, descents
Session 2: 2 hours
- 30 minutes ground instruction time on navigation basics and radio tuning
- 1 hour simulator time for landing practice
- 30 minutes ground instruction review of selected topics
Session 3: 1 hour
- 15 minute basic walk-around of airplane and preflight briefing
- 45 minute flight time focusing on basic airplane control plus minimum of 3 landings
